Blackbeard’s safe haven at Ocracoke Island was pirate party central. Beach bonfires, BBQ’s, drinking, dancing and general merriment were standard conduct. One such party lasted for days, attracting pirate captain notables -- Israel Hands, Charles Vane, Robert Deal and John Rackham (a.k.a. “Calico Jack”).
