When Maynard’s ships became stuck on a sandbar, Blackbeard fired all eight cannons, killing or wounding half of Maynards men. Yet the force of the cannon blasts also grounded Blackbeard’s “Adventure”. Both crews scrambled to free their ships, chucking gear and ballast overboard.
