The Blunderbuss

This weapon was akin to today’s sawed off shotguns. Loaded with lead shot, glass or nails, pirates used it in close quarters. The blunderbuss’ muzzle was flared, in order to intensify the spread of the shot and also to ease the funneling of powder and shot into the weapon—ideal for reloading on a rocking ship.
